Dear User,

Here is a list of the latest changes we implemented in Aviary during Sprints 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, & 78. These are available on the site as of August 2, 2021. Complete change log can be found in the Aviary Knowledge Base.

New Features

                • Organization users can now create video and audio clips directly in Aviary using the Aviary media player.

                  • For any media file in Aviary, while viewing, locate the “scissors” icon in the bottom right corner of the media player.

                    • When the icon is clicked, the user sees the clip creation UI on the Resource Detail page for any media file that is stored in Wasabi.

                    • The user sets start/end points and when they click the Create Clip button, they get a modal asking whether the new clip should become a new resource or a new media file attached to the current resource.

                    • Either a new resource is created with the new media file as its child; or a new media file is attached at the end of the sequence for the current resource - based on the user's preference.

                    • For video files being clipped, organization users can add a “Title” and/or a “Logo” to the clip if they would like to add 3s fade-in title and closing cards to the clip when it is generated.

                • Organization users can now select a frame from the media player timeline and ask Aviary to set it as the thumbnail for the media file.

                  • On the aviary media player, there is a "camera" icon that can be clicked by the organization user.

                  • When clicked, Aviary will generate a thumbnail from the current timestamp and store it as the new thumbnail for the media file.

                • The Aviary metadata model has been overhauled to increase page-load efficiency and to offer users reduced field management requirements for custom metadata fields.

                  • Organization users can now create custom resource metadata fields at the global level and assign the fields to multiple collections.

                  • Organization users can now manage the absence or presence of resource metadata fields at a global level instead of at the collection level only.

                  • Organization users can now change the display label for default Aviary metadata fields.

                  • Organization search facets are now managed in the “Field Management” section of the administrative sidebar.

                  • Organization users can also manage the presence/absence and sequencing of collection metadata fields at the global level.

                  • All organizations’ metadata have been migrated from the old data model to the new data model.

                • Aviary now supports Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for all users

                  • Users can enable 2FA in their user Profile settings.

Enhancements

                • Increased granularity options for actively provisioning access to users.

                  • Organization users can select a single media file instead of all media files for a resource as the access target of a permission group.

                  • Organization users can select a single transcript or index instead of all transcripts or indexes for a media file as the access target of a permission group.

                    • If a user has been granted access to a transcript/index, then they can find the parent resource on the collection landing page and in search results.

                    • If a user has been granted access to a media file, then they can find the parent resource on the collection landing page and in search results.

                • Organization users can now configure CC to be turned on by default at the media file level.

                  • When enabled, the CC for a media file will be present and enabled when a user plays the media file.

                • Organization users can now manage all Transcripts and Indexes across their collections using the Index and Transcript management tables in the administration side bar.

                  • Users can select one or more from each table and perform batch actions, i.e., Delete, and Change Status.

                • Improved the IIIF manifest for Aviary resources so that it is recognized more accurately by IIIF manifest readers.

                  • Added width/height to canvas and annotation items.

                  • Adjusted the location of the logo placement.

                  • Adjusted the handling of annotation target values.

                  • Integrated use of W3C media fragment syntax for time spans/timestamps in annotations.

                  • Added transcript annotations as another annotation layer in the IIIF manifest.

                • Aviary now allows the share link to be visible in the Aviary media player when embedded.

                • For organization users, email addresses (when available) are now added to the Access Request details modal to make it easier to contact users who have requested access to content.

                • Improved the Aviary embed code to fit correctly within the iframes they are embedded in, even if we have no control over any attributes of the iframe.

                • Users now have access to functioning Social Media share options when sharing Aviary resources and media files.

                  • When a user clicks Share on the media player they see buttons for Facebook and Twitter share codes.

                • Playlist “autoplay” functionality can now be configured by organization users to be enabled or disabled for a given Playlist.

                • Added a link to the designated Playlist when emails are sent to users who have been granted access to a specific playlist.

Fixes

                • Fixed an issue causing the Flock search facet configuration to fail.

                • Fixed an issue causing collections and resources not to appear in Flock search results.

                • Fixed an issue with transcript annotations that was causing transcript text to display all 00000000s.

                • Fixed an issue causing transcript text to be forced to lowercase when highlighted as a search result hit.

                • Fixed an issue causing sorting to fail on the Aviary resources management table for any resources updated after our release of the new metadata model.

                • Fixed an issue causing playlist search/filter functionality to return no results.

                • Disabled the Aviary collection link on the resource detail page when it is being embedded so that viewers cannot navigate out of the embed frame.

                • Fixed an issue not allowing users to edit the clip start/end times for playlists and media file clips.

                • Fixed an issue that was causing Annotation windows to anchor too low in the Aviary UI.

                • Fixed an issue causing the Playlist View and Edit tab titles to show an empty count value in the UI.

                • Fixed an issue that caused IBM Watson transcripts to fail for a certain period of time.

                • Removed the validity of Pricing and other non-relevant paths from Aviary subdomain URLs.

                • Fixed an issue that caused the Aviary media thumbnail not to constrain proportions when a media file is locked and no player is present.

Known Issues

        • We are currently aware that YouTube CC (closed caption) transcripts are not being imported successfully into Aviary. YouTube made an API change that broke our existing integration for accessing CC text. We fixed the issue so that Aviary still embeds YouTube videos successfully, but we are still working on a revamp to be able to continue to bring in CC from YouTube successfully.
