Dear User,
Here is a list of the latest changes we implemented in Aviary during Sprints 66, 67, & 68. These are available on the site as of March 8, 2021. Complete change log can be found in the Aviary Knowledge Base.
New Features
Flocks are here! What’s a Flock? Great question! Aviary subscribers can now band together to create themed / shared portals for focused searching.
A Flock landing page highlights collections and resources from a Flock.
Flock orgs and collections are featured on a Flock-specific blacklight search/facet page.
Flock admins can configure the facets that are present and in what sequence they display.
Flock admins can configure the header/footer using the Flock sidebar management tab.
Flock admins can configure the color and text color for search bar and search text using the Flock sidebar management tab.
Flock admins can configure the display settings using the Flock management sidebar.
Flock admins can configure the profile settings using the Flock management sidebar.
Flocks can have configurable subdomains:
[flock-name].aviaryplatform.com
Example custom DNS: [flock-name].edu
All Flock user roles have the ability to access the "Configuration" sub-tab.
An Organization admin can select whether their organization is in or out of the Flock (enable/disable participation).
An Organization admin can select which collections are included in the Flock interface (if the organization has enabled participation in the Flock).
At long last, Resources can now include Supplemental Files that can be viewed while interacting with the Resource media player.
Supported file formats include PNG, PDF, and JPG.
An organization user can attach as many supplemental files as desired to any resource.
There is a new supplemental files tab to the right of the transcript tab.
Users will only be able to see files that they have permission to see (just like transcripts and indexes currently work).
Supplemental files are children of Resources (not media files).
Each supplemental file can have a title, a description, and a status.
Organization users can now provide descriptions of transcripts and indexes. If present, the descriptions are displayed in the panel just above the transcript and index.
Description displays after "Note: " under the Edited by statement and above the first transcript point.
When any user exports a transcript (or transcript with annotations), the description value is exported, too, if it is present.
Organization users can pass the "Description" value as a column called "Description" when creating Indexes and transcripts using the Bulk Import package.
Organization users can pass the "Description" value when creating/updating transcripts and indexes using the API endpoint.
Enhancements
Aviary’s look and feel have been updated site-wide. A new Aviary landing page, and new CSS for the entire site are now in place.
Aviary’s media player will now show a replay icon when the player reaches the end of the current timeline.
Aviary’s Public API documentation has a new home at https://aviaryplatform.com/api/v1/documentation.
Continued work on Aviary’s Public API including the following endpoints:
Delete an existing media file
Delete media file’s thumbnail image
Insert a new index file
Update an existing index file
Delete existing index file
Delete existing transcript file
All Aviary search boxes now have help buttons (“?”) that will provide search syntax tips. When clicked, a new tab should open to: https://confluence.weareavp.com/display/AVIARYSUPP/Search+Syntax+Tips.
All Aviary tables now have a range selector for users to limit the number of entries in the table, e.g., 10, 25, 50, 100.
When multiple media files are uploaded at once in Aviary UI, Aviary will now sequence them by default in alphabetical order (A-Z) based on filename.
Improved the behavior of Collection and Playlist tables to increase loading speed.
All Aviary embed links can now include Aviary custom URLs for a resource as a replacement for the Aviary direct URL for a resource.
Added native support for .doc and .docx files in the transcript import feature.
.docx files that match our current txt transcript formatting rules can be imported.
.doc files that match our current txt transcript formatting rules can be imported.
additionally, when time codes do not have brackets, e.g., 00:00:00, Aviary will still import them correctly.
Time codes can be placed anywhere in the .doc / .docx file.
The following time code expressions are supported and they can be found in or out of brackets:
00:00 – mm:ss
00:00:00 - hh:mm:ss
00:00:00:00 - hh:mm:ss:ms
00:00:00.00 - hh:mm:ss.ms
Handle Speaker names that are not all caps, e.g., Nouman: or Nouman T.: or N. Tayyab:
Aviary will ignore any headers or footers in the file.
Organizations that use Aviary’s ArchivesSpace sync services can now set a schedule for sync jobs to run, instead of starting them manually each time.
Organization users can turn off the scheduled cron job at any time.
Organization users can turn on the scheduled cron job again if desired.
Logs are created as they currently are so organization users can stay updated on the history of syncs.
Fixes
Fixed a scroll bar UI issue that caused the scroll bar within the transcript and index panels to appear and disappear in rapid succession when the mouse moved in and out of the panels.
Fixed an issue where the media end time was being duplicated in the media embed link.
Fixed an issue where Resource duration values were reset to 0 when a Resource record was updated using the bulk CSV metadata feature.
Fixed a permissions issue that was not allowing users who had been granted access to “restricted” resources to see them in Aviary search result sets.
Fixed an issue in the Access Requests table where sorting by Date of Request and Status would cause the table sorting to fail.
Complete change log can be found in the Aviary Knowledge Base.
