Dear User,
Here is a list of the latest changes we implemented in Aviary during Sprint 53. These are available on the site as of July 27, 2020. Complete change log can be found in the Aviary Knowledge Base.
New Features
Aviary now allows organizations to invite users to join Aviary when they are added to Permission Groups.
Organizations can customize the Invitation Email (full HTML support).
An organization user can select a button to "Customize Aviary Invite Email" in the Organization Profile settings. A pop up modal allows the user to supply HTML to customize the Invite Email.
The organization user will see a list of variables that they can use within the email to make use of the invitee’s email address, first name, last name, and the invitation verification link.
When an invitee is invited via a permission group Aviary only sends the Invitation Email to the user. Aviary does not send the standard email about what content the user has been granted access to. The user will only receive one email.
The invitee, once confirming the link in their invitation email, will land on the subdomain of the inviting organization and will be asked to create a password for their account. Upon completion, they will land on the organization home page.
Organization users can see a list of pending invitations so that they can see who has and who has not registered after they sent an invite from a permission group.
In the Permission Group, next to the list of Users, there is a button to "see pending invites." Organization users can view all pending invites, delete pending invites, and resend a pending invite if desired.
Aviary now supports h.265 video files.
When an h.265 video is uploaded, Aviary stores it and also creates a derivative h.264. When a user tries to access the video, Aviary negotiates with the user’s browser and OS to identify whether h.265 would be supported. If so, Aviary presents the h.265 file in the media player. If not, Aviary presents the h.264 version.
Enhancements
Aviary now uses file chunking instead of a single object upload when media files are uploaded. This will reduce failures for uploading large files. It also allows Aviary to track each file being uploaded separately so that a multi-file upload isn’t all or nothing.
When creating user-level permission groups, Organizations can now enter a user name if no email address is known in order to allow SSO users to be added to permission groups before they have interacted with Aviary.
When creating user-level permission groups, Organizations can now enter an unknown email address if the user is not known to Aviary in order to allow SSO users to be added to permission groups before they have interacted with Aviary, and in order to be able to invite new users to Aviary directly.
When an organization user adds a user using the email/username field of permission group, if user is not known, then there is a pop up so that first name and last name can be added.
Aviary checks each email and if the email is not known, Aviary adds a check box in the user email list next to the entry that is an option to "Invite user to Aviary?"
When the organization saves the group, for any email entry where the "invite user" box is checked, then Aviary will send an email invitation for the user to register (the same way we currently do when org admins invite new org users to the system).
Organizations can provide a CSV of usernames and/or email addresses to add users to permission groups in bulk.
In the CSV, each line will represent a single entry. Each entry can have up to three values: email address (or username), first name, last name. Only email address is required.
A user can navigate through Annotations on a transcript.
There are navigation buttons at the top left of the annotation window that contain (x of y) and a user can use arrows to navigate through the available annotations if desired.
Fixes
Fixed issue related to Collection Description fields where an organization user could not successfully delete Collection Description metadata values from the Collection Description tab after they had been entered and saved.
Fixed an issue related to resource duration. When a user deleted a media item from a resource, the resource duration did not get updated.
Fixed an issue in the "Detail" column of the organization Account page so that it shows the $ amount and minute amount to the second decimal place.
Fixed an issue with the stickiness of the Aviary website footer. The footer will now stick to the bottom of the screen even when there's not enough page content to push it to the bottom. Also, the footer does not obstruct the view or ability to interact with items on the screen.
